The Gyeonggi Museum of Art presents To Our Summer, featuring 26 teams of young artists recognized for their potential in the contemporary art world. The museum has long expanded the boundaries of contemporary art by engaging with adjacent genres such as crafts, design, and architecture. Today's young artists continue this exchange even more freely. Just as works beginning with painting broaden their horizons into three-dimensional art, genre is not a boundary for them, but a realm they lightly cross. To the extent that their independent practice itself becomes a genre, these young artists demonstrate through their works the diversity of contemporary art, which is difficult to define by the language of institutions. This exhibition focuses on that flexibility—the potential to spread into anything.

How should these artists be presented? The approach chosen for this exhibition is to set aside genre-based perspectives and engage in a dialogue within the broad category of "art." Accordingly, we invite 26 teams that explore a wide range of domains—including painting, sculpture, installation, media, furniture, architecture, ceramics, design, textiles, and performance—opening avenues for expanded interpretation across different media. How, then, should we encounter the worlds of these twenty-six? This exhibition strips away predetermined paths to weave a new solidarity that embraces and coexists with differences. By strategically placing "randomness" among the artworks to maximize serendipity, it guides visitors to independently choose everything from the viewing route to the presentation of the brochure. By unraveling the artists' worlds through keywords and scattering them alongside the works, visitors use these keywords as clues to encounter the artists in their own unique ways. The currents that bloom as the identities of these 26 teams intersect and overlap amidst these unexpected encounters constitute the landscape of this exhibition.

These landscapes converge under the single word, 'Summer.' In this exhibition, 'Summer' signifies more than just a cyclical season. Summer is the present of youth, the trajectory of ceaselessly flowing time, and the very heart of an enchanting life. Just as 'we' all experience our own summers, summer is a moment that dwells in everyone's life. The artists encountered here are currently passing through their own scorching summers. In the midst of this moment, we hope you discover our summer, and yours as well.
